24th Annual Longest Causeway Run & Fitness Walk
Wrap Up!The 24th Annual Longest Causeway Run & Fitness Walk, held on Saturday, January 12, 2008, drew 2,781 competitors and walkers who took advantage of the unique opportunity to cross the 2.6 mile Queen Isabella Causeway on foot.
The 2008 event broke new records with a total participation of over 2,781 walkers and runnersan increase of over 30% over last year's total. The 6.2 mile (10K) course started at the Port Isabel Community Center and ends in front of Louie’s Backyard on South Padre Island. Awards ceremonies and lunch were held immediately following the race at Louie’s Backyard on South Padre Island. Walkers opting for the shorter 3k course could be transported by shuttle to the awards ceremony or back to the race’s starting point in Port Isabel.
Trophies as well as cash prizes were awarded to the overall male and female winners. First through third place trophies will also be presented in each of the 23 male and female age divisions. AND the cash prizes awarded in 2008 have been doubled! First place male and female, $1,000; second place male and female, $600; and third place male and female, $400.
